I will step down as NFF president- Pinnick

Amaju Pinnick has finally taken the decision to vacate his position as the president of The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the end of his tenure.

Recall last year, Pinnick said he is looking at the options of continuing as the president of the federation for the third time as it is possible according to the rules of the football governing body.

However, the 51 year-old has reversed his decision after he claimed his family is not in support of the third time idea. This is coming after enormous pressure was mounted on the president by the nation’s football fans asking for him to tender his resignation letter after he failed to deliver the 2022 world cup ticket.

According to an online source, Pinnick said, “The decision not to run for the third time is solely based on my family because they are important to me, and i was told they have not seen much of me. So if you ask me if i want to continue, the answer is no and It’s a decision that i regret but i think it’s the best for all parties considering the fact that I’ve done my best and now It’s time to move on”.

After the one whole draw against Ghana in Abuja which saw the Super Eagles fail to qualify for the World Cup, one of the notable people that called for the resignation of Pinnick is the former secretary of the then Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Dr Tijani Yusuff, he gave his opinion in an interview saying that the first person that should have resigned is Amaju Pinnick alongside the board members because it’s the right thing to do.

Even though Pinnick didn’t resign, the Delta-born will not stay on when his tenure ends in September.
