A late-night operation by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has led to the arrest of 52 people accused of engaging in criminal activities around Lagos Island.
In a statement issued Saturday on X, Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that the raid kicked off at about 12:35 a.m. on April 26, 2025. He noted that enforcement teams covered critical areas, including Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel, and Ligali Ayorinde.
Wahab explained that the action followed complaints from residents about an upsurge in nighttime crimes committed by street gangs, pickpockets, and other suspects preying on members of the public.
According to him, the taskforce apprehended 51 men and one woman during the operation, successfully restoring order to the affected areas.
He emphasized that the clean-up is part of a wider plan to conduct similar raids twice weekly to drive criminal elements out of the Island.
Wahab also confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court as part of the government’s broader initiative to bolster public safety in Lagos.
