Akpabio Sues Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Over Mock Apology Video

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has sued suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, he is asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel her to delete a mock apology video posted on her social media pages. The video, shared on April 27, showed Akpoti-Uduaghan satirically apologising for not giving in to Akpabio’s alleged advances.

In the video, she stated, “I’m sorry for the crime of maintaining dignity and self-respect,” while hinting that Akpabio expected everyone to submit to his wishes. This incident followed a heated disagreement between both senators in the chamber over seating arrangements. That clash escalated into a legal battle and further disciplinary steps within the Senate.

Natasha Seeks Protection From Senate Probe

Following the incident, Natasha filed a suit to stop the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions—led by Senator Neda Imasuen—from investigating her for alleged misconduct. She asked the court to restrain the committee from punishing her. Despite her efforts, she was later suspended from Senate activities after accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment.

The case took another twist on April 4, 2025, when Justice Binta Nyako ordered all parties to refrain from making public statements on the matter. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan went ahead to release the video, which Akpabio’s lawyers now argue violates that judicial order.

Akpabio Demands Video Deletion and Public Apology

Akpabio’s legal representative, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, has filed a fresh application. He is asking the court to order Akpoti-Uduaghan to take down the video from all her social media platforms. His team also wants her to publish a written apology in two national newspapers and swear an affidavit to confirm she has obeyed the court.

This legal move adds a new layer to the ongoing face-off between both lawmakers. The clash, which started as a disagreement over seating, has now grown into a national conversation about dignity, power, and accountability in public office.

Akpabio vs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Continues

The legal drama between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has stirred reactions across Nigeria. With Akpabio suing and demanding an apology and video deletion, and Natasha standing by her claims, the outcome of this case may set a precedent for how public figures handle accusations and satire. The court will now decide if Natasha’s post disrespected its earlier order or if it falls under her freedom of expression. Either way, the spotlight remains firmly on both senators as Nigerians await the next legal development.
