Nigerian social media critic, VeryDarkMan, has accused Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) of illegally detaining him at one of its Abuja branches while trying to resolve issues surrounding suspicious withdrawals from his mother’s bank account.

In a video posted on Instagram on Saturday, the outspoken activist recounted his experience, claiming that he was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under questionable circumstances after being invited inside the bank for further discussion.

“I Was Blocked Without Explanation” – VeryDarkMan Describes Ordeal In Gtbank Amid EFCC Detention

“GTBank, you will explain why you held me hostage in your bank… why you kidnapped me in your bank because I don’t operate your bank. That’s number one. Number two of this whole thing — I am not wanted in Nigeria where you say a wanted man came into your bank… Number three, you are not an executive arm in the government,” he stated.

VeryDarkMan explained that he had gone to the bank with his mother to investigate unauthorized loans and transactions on her account. While reviewing the statements, she denied initiating the suspicious activities. According to him, things escalated when they tried to leave and were suddenly confronted by police officers who blocked their exit.

“The policeman could not answer… I was angry. I brought out my camera and asked why they were holding me. I don’t operate GTBank. What is the problem?” he added.

He alleged that the entire scenario felt orchestrated, suggesting there was a setup involved. “I didn’t know there was a plan,” he said, demanding accountability from the financial institution.

The video also featured VeryDarkMan expressing gratitude to the media, celebrities, and fans who supported his recent public campaign, describing their backing as a powerful sign of unity among Nigerians.

GTBank has yet to release a statement in response to the allegations at the time of this report.
