Former Nollywood actress Grace Bassey, once known by her screen name Belinda Effah, has taken a bold step into a new chapter of her life by joining the United States Navy. The 33-year-old also earned her American citizenship in the process.

Bassey celebrated the milestone on her social media pages, sharing a photo in her Navy uniform and reflecting on her journey. “Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States,” she announced.

In her post, she acknowledged both her roots and the transformative experience of her new path. “Nigeria raised me, America challenged me, and I stand today stronger and more determined than ever,” she stated. “Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning. In honour of my late father – Naval Cdr. Asido Bassey Effah.”

Before leaving the film industry, Bassey was widely recognized under the name Belinda Effah, having featured in numerous popular Nollywood films. However, she previously disclosed that a profound spiritual experience led her to adopt the name Grace. According to her, the name “Belinda” translates to “beautiful serpent,” a meaning she chose to leave behind after what she described as a divine encounter.

“God changed my name to Grace after a divine encounter,” she explained, adding that the name change was “a personal rebranding, but not a change in her core values or identity.”

Grace Bassey’s shift from acting to military service stands as a powerful testament to personal growth, resilience, and new beginnings.
