Captain of Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes has declined a very attractive offer from the Saudi Arabian football club Al-Hilal, and comprehensively decided to stay at Old Trafford and continue playing at what he calls “the highest possible level.”
The Portuguese footballer was at the center of a report that he would be given a contract that would have made his salary twice as big and at the same time joining Al-Hilal for the FIFA Club World Cup happening later this month. However, besides the financial lure and the fact that Portuguese stars such as Ronaldo, Neves, and Cancelo are present in the Saudi Pro League, Fernandes opted to continue in United.
The 29-year-old, who has scored 98 goals in 290 games, since being transferred from Sporting CP in January 2020, stated that the decision came after he consulted with his family and manager Ruben Amorim.
“Manchester United didn’t want to sell me. They said if I wanted to leave, I could, but they didn’t need the money,” Fernandes clarified “Ruben Amorim and myself were of one mind during that period, he always insisted that I stay.”
Fernandes states that he will still fight at the highest level and continues, “I want to play in the major competitions. I really do. ”
He is anticipated to be part of the Portuguese team that leads the challenge against Germany in Wednesday’s Nations League semi-final.
