The Federal Government has announced the expansion of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in partnership with the World Bank and other international agencies. The aim is to boost rural infrastructure, ease transportation, and strengthen local agriculture across Nigeria.

The update was made on Thursday at the Early Market Engagement Event in Abuja, where government representatives, private contractors, and development partners gathered to plan new procurement stages under the scale-up of RAAMP.

Director of the Project Coordinating Unit, Bukar Musa, described the gathering as “a critical step in preparing the market for the upcoming procurement opportunities supported by our development partners, including the World Bank and the Federal and state governments.”

FG Expands Rural Roads Project to Reach More Communities

RAAMP, which began as a joint effort between Nigerian authorities and global development partners, focuses on building rural roads and improving access to markets. The expanded phase of the programme will push these efforts even further.

National Coordinator of RAAMP, Aminu Mohammed, said that the next phase requires “higher levels of professionalism, efficiency, and compliance with international best practices.”

He noted that stakeholders must take early preparation seriously and understand that this isn’t just another workshop. “This forum is not merely a formality, but a strategic step in preparing the ground for successful and impactful delivery of rural infrastructure and services across Nigeria.”

Procurement Consultant Muhammad Yahaya explained that the new phase will involve both local and international procurement standards. He stressed the importance of compliance with the World Bank’s procurement rules for goods, services, and consultancy.

Meanwhile, Lead Infrastructure expert, Bukar Gana, highlighted the strategic value of the new low-volume roads being constructed under RAAMP. He said they are “built to complement the comprehensive highway manual” and connect critical areas of economic activity.

“These roads are not just for traffic, they are planned to unlock the agricultural and market potential of neglected rural areas,” he said.

The expansion of the rural roads project shows the Federal Government’s focus on improving access and infrastructure in underserved areas. As the FG expands the rural roads project with World Bank support, contractors, consultants, and communities are encouraged to engage actively to ensure the project delivers lasting value.
