2027: Can Peter Obi Rescue Nigeria?
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has said that the African Democratic Congress coalition will always put Nigerians first. He made this statement as he confirmed his full support for the ADC coalition ahead of the 2027 election to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

According to Obi, the decision to adopt the ADC as a political platform was taken after deep reflection on Nigeria’s tough situation. He explained that the coalition’s aim is to provide what he called competent and compassionate leadership for Nigeria.

In his words, “Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.”

However, many Nigerians are now asking: is this ADC coalition truly for the good of Nigerians or simply another political move?

Obi Backs ADC Coalition For Nigerians’ Good Amid Growing Political Drama

In a post on his X account, Obi said the move to adopt ADC as the coalition platform was not made lightly. He revealed that it came after long discussions and careful thought about Nigeria’s challenges.

Obi said, “No one group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls, even when those bridges are uneasy.”

The ADC coalition includes key opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other political leaders. They officially unveiled ADC as their platform on Wednesday at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

During the event, former Senate President David Mark was named interim National Chairman of ADC, and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola became the interim National Secretary.

The coalition says it is ready to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. But some Nigerians are now asking a simple question—will this coalition truly focus on the good of Nigerians, or is it just about their own power?

The ADC coalition says it wants to remove poverty and insecurity in Nigeria. But some Nigerians are still not sure if this is really for their benefit.

Many are asking if this political move is really different from others they have seen before. In the past, politicians have made similar promises, only to disappoint after winning elections.

Some also wonder if this coalition, with former top politicians like Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola, can truly deliver fresh ideas. After all, these are not new names in Nigerian politics.

Though Obi says the ADC coalition is “for the good of Nigerians,” the big question still remains—is this really for Nigerians’ good or just another coalition to grab power?
