Mr Joseph Oladimeji Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has voiced deep suspicions over the events surrounding his son’s death, suggesting foul play and mishandling by those present during the singer’s final hours.
In a detailed interview with controversial social media activist Vincent Otse Martins, widely known as VeryDarkMan, Mr Aloba recounted the unsettling timeline of September 12 — the day his 27-year-old son died — and expressed shock at how the situation unfolded.
According to him, he received a distressing phone call around 4:30 p.m. from Mohbad’s mother, alerting him that their son had fallen seriously ill and had been taken to a hospital. He immediately made arrangements to meet her, and together they rushed to the medical facility located at Osapa London.
“On the 12th of September, Iya Mohbad called me around 4:30 pm to tell me that my son is not well and is being hospitalized… When we got to Osapa London, Darosha Iya told me that my son is getting better now and I can go home around 7:00 pm,” Mr Aloba recounted.
He said the reassurance did not sit well with him, given the earlier frantic calls he had received. The sudden shift in tone from urgency to calm made him uneasy.
“I was already sensing my son was dead. Because of how they kept calling me that my son is not well and all of a sudden they said he was fine,” he said.
Later that evening, when he followed them to Mohbad’s residence, Mr Aloba said he encountered an unusual scene. The entrance was packed with people, and there was initial resistance before he was allowed to enter. Once inside, he made his way upstairs to the room where he and Mohbad typically had private conversations — and what he saw left him rattled.
“I went upstairs because that is where I and Mohbad usually met. I noticed that the duvet was soaked in blood,” he revealed.
The grieving father also accused the police of mishandling the case. He said that when he attempted to file a formal statement at the station, he was abruptly denied a police report.
“We went to the police station. When I was giving my statement, someone came out and said they should not give me the police report because I did not report his death on time,” Mr Aloba said.
His concerns did not end there. He alleged that Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, had access to a medical report but refused to share it with him. Even more alarming, he claimed the singer’s body was embalmed at home without his consent.
He added that their attempt to take the body to a morgue was met with refusal that night, deepening the mystery around how the situation was handled in the hours following his son’s death.
Mr Aloba’s revelations have reignited public interest and debate over Mohbad’s untimely demise, fueling ongoing demands for transparency, justice, and a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the young artist’s passing.
