Popular Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has opened up about how a missed opportunity early in his career turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Culture League podcast, Timini revealed that he was once shortlisted to represent Nigeria on Big Brother Africa but was unexpectedly dropped at the final stage.
“I was supposed to be on Big Brother Africa some years ago. There were about five of us left and we had done everything necessary. They told us to wait to be called. I waited, but the call never came,” he recounted.
The actor explained that he had fully prepared to appear on the show, even hiring a social media manager in anticipation of the publicity, but the final call never arrived.
Rather than let the disappointment weigh him down, that same year proved to be the turning point in his career. Timini was cast in MTV Shuga Naija, a role he described as the real beginning of his journey to stardom in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
“If I had gone on Big Brother, the hype would probably have died down by now. I might not have made it this far,” he said. “That experience taught me that lost opportunities can sometimes be a blessing.”
Reflecting on his journey, Timini emphasized the importance of trusting the process and staying resilient, even in the face of rejection.
“Where I am today is where I’m ordained to be,” he stated. “I believe that missed opportunity was God’s way of redirecting me.”
