Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has shared his thoughts on the political nature of the Igbo man, suggesting that many Igbos struggle to thrive in Nigerian politics due to an inherent intolerance for betrayal.

In a recent interview with Afia TV, the respected actor said the average Igbo man lacks the temperament required for navigating Nigeria’s political terrain, which often involves compromise and deception.

“An Igbo man is not a good politician. And I will tell you why,” Edochie said.

“People who are used to politics or the treachery that characterised politics, can overlook a lot of things. But the Igbo man is not constituted to condole treachery a second time.”

According to him, while many politicians have learned to absorb betrayal and move forward, the typical Igbo man finds it difficult to do so, which often affects his ability to form or sustain critical political alliances.

“If you hurt the Igbo man once in politics, he will never give you an opportunity to hurt him again. He will recoil himself. That’s the average Igbo man,” he stated.

Edochie added that once trust is broken in political dealings involving an Igbo person, the relationship is usually severed with no room for reconciliation.

“The Igbo man is really not constituted to sustain political treachery. The moment you exhibit treachery in your involvement with an Igbo man, they cut you off. That’s it,” he emphasized.
