Liverpool haven’t told of a plan to make a permanent memorial at Anfield to pay homage to their ex-forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva who passed away due to a car accident on July 3.

The accident happened in northern Spain, only 11 days after Jota had tied the knot with his partner, Rute Cardoso, whom he had been with for a long time.

The 27-year-old man who has three children and his brother were the victims when their car went off the road and caught fire. As a result, Anfield has turned into a spot of grief nowadays, where a multitude of issues from fans are found such as flowers, scarves, cards, and shirts.

Liverpool in a letter have acknowledged that these will be the means of developing a physical element that depicts Liverpool at Anfield. “The club will dispose of floral tributes by composting them for flower beds, while recycling remaining items for waste-wood incorporation as memorial artwork,” the club said.

The Reds have also decided that Jota’s presence will be felt during the 2025/26 season when the new shirt number ‘Forever 20’—his retired shirt number—will be part of the players’ shirts and the jackets of the fans in the stadium.

Liverpool have also dedicated a Jota and Silva tribute by playing a friendly against Preston and will carry out a formal commemoration, which will involve a fan mosaic and a minute’s silence, before they play their first match against Bournemouth on August 15.
