Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has taken a tough stance on insecurity by giving cultists and kidnappers a direct order to leave the state without delay. The governor said criminal groups will face the full weight of the law if they refuse to comply. His directive followed the demolition of a building in Egbaen Community, Egor Local Government Area, which had been used for cult initiation rites and ritual practices.

Okpebholo Orders Cultists, Kidnappers Out of Edo After Demolition

The operation, carried out by the Edo State Special Security Squad, “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” in collaboration with other security agencies, exposed a shrine and meeting point linked to suspected cult leader, Marvelous Adetarami of the Maphite group.

Coordinator of the security squad, Idemudia Noah, said the property had been sealed days earlier, but intelligence confirmed that the suspects resumed operations at night. “We got credible information that the suspected cult leader Marvellous Adetarami and his members still gathered to have their meetings in this sealed bungalow, where the horrible shrine was discovered,” he told journalists.

He stressed that the demolition became necessary after the defiance of the cult group.

Residents of Egbaen, who had lived under constant fear, welcomed the action. They said the demolition was a relief, as the site had become a major source of insecurity in the community. Idemudia noted, “Neighbours and community members are all joyous seeing the building pulled down, as they have lived in fear following the suspect’s activities.”

He assured citizens that under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, Edo will not serve as a safe haven for cultists or kidnappers. “Edo State Government has promised hard times for those perpetrating criminal activities across the state. There is no hiding place for them,” he declared.

The security squad confirmed that the key suspect has been invited for questioning but has so far refused to honour the invitation. Officials, however, insisted that law enforcement will not relent until justice is served.

Idemudia also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. “We encourage neighbours and citizens across the state who notice such nefarious activities in their communities to inform security agencies. Together, we can ensure a safer Edo for all.”

Bottom Line

By ordering cultists and kidnappers out of Edo, Governor Okpebholo has signaled a new phase in the fight against insecurity. His warning is not just symbolic but backed with visible enforcement, demolitions, and intelligence-driven operations. The governor’s strong message makes it clear that Edo will no longer tolerate criminal groups undermining the peace and safety of its people.
