Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has announced plans to cook the largest pot of jollof rice, using 250 bags of rice, totaling approximately 5,278 kilograms, on September 12, 2025.

The enormous pot, created specifically for the attempt, measures six meters in both width and height, with a capacity of 22,619 litres. Baci aims to fill it to around 80 percent.

In an Instagram video, Baci explained the scale of the ingredients needed for the record-breaking project. She revealed that she would use 1,583 kilograms of tomato paste, based on a ratio of 0.30 kilograms of paste per kilogram of rice.

“My goal is to fill this pot up by at least 75 to 80 per cent. That means I will need about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice to achieve the yield. I am making the executive decision to do 250 bags. For one kg of rice, you would need between 0.20 to 0.35, but because it’s Nigerian jollof, I’m going to use 0.30. That means I will need 1,583 kilogrammes of Gino tomato paste,” she said.

Baci added that the tomato base would be divided equally between tomato paste, pepper chicken paste, and jollof paste to ensure the dish delivers what she calls “the most delicious, largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice you have ever tasted.”

The event will take place at Muri Okunola Park in Lagos and is set to be a celebration of Nigerian cuisine, music, and community, with live performances and free entry for attendees.

Baci’s ambitious culinary feat has already stirred excitement on social media, with fans praising her creativity, skill, and precision in planning the monumental dish.
