Nigerian media personality Patrick Doyle has offered his perspective on two high-profile celebrity weddings that took place in August: Davido and Chioma’s white wedding in Miami, and Temi Otedola and Mr Eazi’s nuptials in Iceland.
In a post on Facebook on Sunday, Doyle noted that while both weddings were grand, they reflected distinctly different styles. He described Davido’s celebration as a lively, colorful affair attended by a mix of “famous and infamous” guests, resembling a carnival atmosphere.
In contrast, Doyle highlighted the understated elegance of Temi and Mr Eazi’s wedding, which he said was attended by “equally sophisticated and accomplished personalities.”
Reflecting on the differences, he suggested that these weddings capture the dual nature of Nigerians. “Two high-profile Nigerian weddings took place more or less simultaneously in the US and Europe. One was a gaudy carnival with a motley crowd comprising the famous and infamous. The other was an exhibition of quiet sophistication and class with a select guest list of equally sophisticated and accomplished personalities. This is the picture of Nigeria that the world is coming to terms with. We are at once razz and loud while also possessing the ability to switch on the charm of sophistication and style. I swear, I love Nigeria and being a Nigerian,” Doyle wrote.
