Nottingham Forest announced late the signing of former Totteham head coach Ange Postecoglou on Tuesday following Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking.
Evangelos Marinakis, the owner, spoke warmly of the 60-year-old’s record, referring to him as the right man to lead Forest into a new era. “We appoint a coach for the Club who is distinguished by his winning trophies record and is consistently successful,” Marinakis stated. “His stay at the top level was a very enriching experience for him and he really wanted to create something very special here by joining us, so that we could together with him reach our shared ambitions.”
Ange Postecoglou returns to the English top flight just three months after he left Tottenham Hotspur. While he was responsible for Spurs’ Europa League victory and earned qualification for the Champions League, chairman Daniel Levy gave him the boot in June, blaming the poor league run that finished with the club 17th. A series of injuries and ugly patchy form marred his second season at North London following a promising one.
In the City Ground, Postecoglou will be the man to continue Forest’s development in the Premier League and in the European competitions. His first task will be to go to Arsenal on Saturday, September 13, before Forest face Real Betis at home in the Europa League on September 30.
