Nigerian social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, has weighed in on celebrity chef Hilda Baci’s recent Jollof rice event, rejecting suggestions that he is envious of her growing fame.
Hilda Baci recently made headlines after orchestrating one of the largest cooking events in Nigeria, earning a Guinness World Record for preparing the country’s biggest pot of Jollof rice.
In a video posted on X on Wednesday, VeryDarkMan connected the event to Nigeria’s political history, noting that rice has often been used by politicians as a way to appease the public when they have failed to deliver.
He stressed that while Hilda’s achievement is significant and should not be labeled a “distraction,” it is, in his view, primarily a “female thing,” and that men’s role at such events is simply to support and applaud from the sidelines.
Addressing claims that he was jealous of her success, VeryDarkMan emphasized his own influence, pointing out that he could draw massive crowds if he chose.
He stated: “Nobody has the decency to call it a distraction. Hilda Baci has made Nigeria proud by putting us on the map. And then one person go dey one place dey say Verydarkman is jealous that he cannot pull that crowd. What crowd? I can full a stadium if I want to. I can full it. I will full a stadium if I say I have something to do there. I will have thousands of ratels that would come there.”
