Afrobeats singer Spyro has revealed that his childhood experiences with his father’s harsh words contributed to his fear of failure.
In an interview with Frank Edoho, the singer explained that his father’s constant criticism made him internalize the belief that he was destined to fail, creating a persistent fear that followed him into adulthood.
“I thought I was going to die broke. I always had this fear of failure. And my dad contributed to that. He took every opportunity he got to always tell me that I am a failure, so I had the fear of failure because I had internalized it,” Spyro said.
He added that the fear affected his academics, resulting in poor performance during his secondary school years.
However, Spyro noted that his life changed dramatically after he developed a personal relationship with God, which helped him overcome his longstanding fear of failure.
Before rising to fame in the music industry, Spyro had considered giving up on music and explored a career in interior design. Everything changed with the viral success of his song “Who Is Your Guy” in 2022.
The 2023 remix featuring Tiwa Savage propelled the track to even greater heights, earning Spyro widespread recognition and the Best Collaboration award at the 16th Headies Awards.
