Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Naija star, Bamike Adenibuyan, widely known as BamBam, has opened up about her careful approach to role selection, particularly when it comes to films with heavy spiritual or diabolical themes.
In a conversation with Saturday Beats, she explained that her heightened sensitivity as an actor influences the types of scripts she is willing to accept.
“I am a very sensitive actor. I try to avoid deeply spiritual films, especially when I’m not sure or spiritually ready for them,” she noted.
BamBam added that acting demands significant groundwork before arriving on set. She stressed the need to fully grasp a character’s emotional journey and reasons for behaving a certain way.
“When you get a script, you step into the role of that character. I got to understand Chioma’s personality and added a part of me to make her real. Acting is about understanding where your character is coming from so you can react as they would,” she explained.
Speaking on the perception of ex–Big Brother Naija housemates in the film industry, BamBam acknowledged that some filmmakers remain hesitant to cast them due to questions about their acting skills.
“I have heard stories that they don’t like casting ex–Big Brother Naija housemates because they don’t trust their de
livery. But thank God for the YouTube platform; it has given me an opportunity to showcase my talent beyond being an ex-reality TV participant,” she said.
Despite such reservations, she maintained that she is committed to demonstrating her versatility and depth as an actor. According to her, digital platforms have played an important role in helping her reach audiences and show what she can do beyond reality TV fame.
