Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has shared what her alternative career choice would have been if she had not pursued music.
During an interactive fan session on X on Tuesday, a user asked the award-winning star, “If music didn’t work, what else do you think you would be doing today?”
In response, Tems revealed she would likely have gone into the world of numbers and academics. “I might have been an accountant or a mathematics teacher,” she replied.

Tems has previously spoken about her transition into full-time music, noting that she resigned from her digital marketing job in January 2018 to give her artistry her complete focus.
She dropped her debut single ‘Mr Rebel’ in July 2018, earning early recognition within Nigeria’s music scene. Her big break came in 2020 after being featured on Wizkid’s hit song ‘Essence’, which later peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following a remix with Justin Bieber.
Since then, the Grammy-winning artist has continued to rise as one of Nigeria’s most globally celebrated voices.
