Nollywood actor and Yoruba cultural icon, Chief Lere Paimo (MON), has been confirmed alive following widespread reports claiming he had passed away at the age of 86.
The rumours gained traction after entertainment journalist and Best of Nollywood Awards Chairman, Seun Oleketuyi, posted on Instagram: “Chief Lere Paimo (MON) is dead. Baba died at age 86. A strong man. Baba survived a stroke twice. May Baba’s soul rest in peace.”
The post sparked an outpouring of reactions from fans, colleagues, and online platforms, with many mourning the actor.

However, the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) quickly refuted the claims, confirming that the actor, also known as Baba Eda Onile Ola, is alive and well.
In a statement signed by its National PRO, Prince Adejonwo Oluwafemi Femson, ANTP said: “Baba Eda, Chief Lere Paimo MFR is NOT Dead. He is alive and well. Disregard all rumours.”
The association also noted: “Reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are FALSE. We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health.”
While Chief Paimo’s family has yet to make a public statement, the confirmation from his wife and the ANTP’s clarification provide reassurance that the actor is in good health.
