How I Became More Successful After the KC Presh Breakup — Kcee

Singer Kcee, best known as one half of the now-defunct duo KC Presh, has opened up about the circumstances surrounding their split, revealing that he felt immense pressure when his partner, Presh, first suggested they pursue solo careers.

Speaking in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee clarified that their separation was not triggered by conflict.
Instead, he explained that both artists were simply evolving musically.

According to him, “KC Presh’s breakup wasn’t due to any disagreement. We didn’t have any issue. It wasn’t because my brother [E-Money] wanted to open a record label.”

He noted that their artistic styles had begun to diverge, stressing that Presh leaned heavily toward R&B, while he gravitated more toward Afropop. Kcee recalled that after they recorded several songs, Presh proposed the idea of going solo. “The idea came from him. I accepted it, but I was under pressure because he has a better voice than me,” he admitted.

The “Limpopo” hitmaker explained that public perception added to the pressure, as many fans believed Presh was the glue that held the group together. “People were praising him, saying he was the one holding the group together… The majority of our fans supported him because they felt he was the better singer,” he said.

However, Kcee emphasized that what the public didn’t see was the amount of work he handled behind the scenes. “I was the one doing most of the work behind the scenes,” he added.

Kcee believes the split ultimately worked in his favour, as it pushed him to work harder and deliver hit records that solidified his career. He also revealed that he later invited Presh to join his 5ive Music label, but Presh declined, still upset about how their post-breakup journeys unfolded.

KC Presh first rose to fame after winning the Star Quest talent show in 2002. Before parting ways in the early 2010s, the duo released three albums that helped define their legacy in the Nigerian music scene.
