Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stirred conversation after asserting that the Nigerian music industry would lack excitement without his presence.

The singer made the bold statement via his official X account, where he wrote, “Imagine no Davido…. Sht [the music industry] would have been boring AF.”

His remark quickly sparked debate online, with several users pushing back and suggesting that the award-winning artist may be overstating his influence on the industry.

Without Me, The Industry Would Be Boring — Davido Declares

This is not the first time Davido has positioned himself as a central figure in Nigerian music. In an interview with Apple Music in April 2025, the singer claimed that the industry experienced a lull during his absence from social media following the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in November 2022.

According to him, the three-month break saw both fans and critics urging him to return, reinforcing his belief in his impact on the scene.

Davido first rose to prominence in 2011 after releasing his breakout single Dami Duro, at a period when a new wave of Afrobeats artists, including Wizkid, was beginning to gain attention.

However, not everyone agrees with his assessment of his influence. Veteran music producer Samkleff recently suggested that Davido’s emergence introduced rivalry and toxicity into the industry. He argued that before Davido’s rise to fame, Nigerian artists maintained a stronger sense of mutual respect.

The differing opinions have once again reignited discussions about Davido’s role, legacy, and influence within the ever-evolving Nigerian music landscape.
