Police Operatives belonging to the Uttar Pradesh Police in India on Friday announced that they had arrested a 38-year-old Nigerian man identified as Garuba Galumje, for allegedly tricking and scamming over 300 women under the pretense of a marriage proposal.

Galumje, who was residing in the Kishan Garh area of South Delhi, India at the time was reported to have a modus operandi where he would befriend women through social media and marriage websites; introducing himself as an Indian expatriate living in Canada. He was nabbed by operatives of the cybercrime police station in Noida, Uttar Pradesh state of India after a disgruntled woman reported him to the authorities.

Speaking on the arrest, Inspector Reeta Yadav, the leader of the Noida police state explained that Galumje was arrested after a woman from the Meerut district complained. She said that Galumba had approached her on Jeevansathi, an Indian marriage site, and introduced himself as Sanjay Singh, an Indo-Canadian. According to the woman, Galumba eventually earned her trust, then emotionally manipulated her into making multiple transfers to him before she eventually caught on.

Yadav then explained that Galumba was nabbed after the case was brought to them and they subsequently launched an investigation. Also recovered from him were a passport, seven mobile phones, and several photocopies of some documents, some forged letters from the Banks of Thailand and Dubai. A case has been lodged against him and Galumba is currently in prison awaiting trial.
