A secessionist group calling itself the Ambazonian Boys has attacked and killed over 20 people in a community straddling the border between Nigeria and Cameroon. The group, which is fighting for the self-rule of South-West Cameroon crossed into the Nigerian village near Bashu in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State in quest of several colleagues who fled and refused to join and aid them to intensify the fight against Cameroonian President Paul Biya’s government.
This information was divulged by Chief Cletus Obun, a former member of the Cross River House of Assembly and an aspirant of the House of Representatives for the Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency on Sunday, May 29.
Obun explained that the Cameroonians in the area also speak the Bokye language of the Boki people and the refugees flooding the area had further drawn the attention of Ambazonian militants who regularly barged into the Bashu community with little regard for the residents or others. He said the ensuing gunfight between the militants and their fleeing colleagues claimed the lives of nearly 20 people and added that as of yet it was unknown which of those were Nigerians.
