A federal High Court in Abuja has granted former imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha bail. Okorocha was arrested by the Economic and financial crimes commission on Tuesday, 24th of May, 2022 after being charged with fraud in January.
He pleaded not guilty to the claims of stealing over 2 billion naira while he was in office. His lawyer, Solomon Umoh (SAN) had pleaded with the court to grant him bail based on liberal terms. EFCC through their lawyer O.C Ugwu had opposed his right to bail based on the claims that he had resisted arrest and his bail would disrupt the criminal investigation.
The court however ruled on Tuesday that he should be given bail and that he had the right to be given enough time to defend himself. The court gave him bail of 500 million naira.
