Former Chelsea player and super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has decided to start a talent hunt program for youths in Nigeria. The program was named Back2Base and it is interested in fishing out talented young Nigerians in three sports, football, basketball, and tennis.
The player said he is ready to use his connections worldwide to bring talented youths to the limelight in these sports. The first Back2Base program would be held from the 9th of June to the 11th of June, 2022 at the University of Lagos, Sports Centre, Yaba.
Mikel Obi highlighted the opportunity he got as a young player in the academy at Jos, saying that as the opportunity was created for him, he was also ready to create opportunities for other people. The program is expected to help over a hundred Nigerians achieve their dreams.
“A monetary price will be awarded to the most promising athletes across the three sports. They will also be hosted to an exclusive dinner with me where a mentorship session will be held.”
