American famous actor, Johhny Depp is popularly known for the role of Jack Sparrow in the Pirate of the Caribbeans has won the lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard. He had sued her in a defamation suit on domestic violence.

Amber Heard who is well known for her role in the Aquaman movie had an Op-ed for Washington Post about being a victim of domestic violence.  Even though Heard didn’t directly name Depp, his lawsuit made claims that the op-ed was about him, and that as a result of the post Heard had made him lose out on millions of dollars worth of production deals including his role as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbeans.

The trial for the lawsuit began on the 11th of April, 2022 and the lawsuit was originally for a total of fifty million dollars. Heard’s attorneys had argued that what she wrote was indeed true and that her post should not be considered defamation because Depp was abusive to her physically during their marriage.

In his statement, Depp said that his goal in suing Heard was to clear his name. The trial lasted for a total of six weeks and was live-streamed including the shocking testimonies from both actors and other witnesses.

On Wednesday, June 1st, the seven-person civil jury ordered Heard to pay $15 million. But the jurors also ordered Depp to pay Heard $2 million for her counterclaim that she was defamed when Depp’s lawyer called her allegations a hoax.
