U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark, final warning to Iran on Tuesday, vowing “very strong action” if the Islamic Republic carries out executions of anti-government protesters, a grim prospect that rights groups say is now imminent and could trigger a new U.S.-Iran war.

“If they hang them, you’re going to see some things… We will take very strong action if they do such a thing,” Trump told CBS News. The chilling threat comes as families in Tehran report that 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, detained just last week, has already been sentenced to death in a lightning two-day trial and could face the gallows as soon as Wednesday—a pace activists call unprecedented. “We have never witnessed a case move so quickly,” said Awyar Shekhi of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.

‘You Will Regret It’: Trump's Final Warning to Iran on the Eve of Executions
The Execution Clock Starts Ticking

The threat of mass judicial killings represents a terrifying new phase in Iran’s brutal crackdown, which has already left an estimated 2,400 protesters dead and over 18,000 arrested, according to U.S.-based monitors. UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk expressed extreme alarm over Iranian officials’ statements, “indicating the possibility of the death penalty being used against protesters through expedited trials.” Iranian judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei vowed those involved in unrest would be “dealt with seriously and severely,” with prosecutors threatening charges of “enmity against God”—a capital offense.

This judicial terror unfolds against a backdrop of carnage hidden by a 120-hour internet blackout. Verified footage shows over 180 shrouded bodies at a Tehran forensic center, while a London-based Iranian doctor relayed messages from colleagues describing hospitals as “war zones” overwhelmed with casualties and blood shortages. “You don’t know a fraction of the level of violence that’s been used,” one activist told BBC Persian.

Trump’s Ultimatum and the Path to War

Trump’s warning is not idle. He has canceled all meetings with Iranian officials, pledged “HELP IS ON ITS WAY” to protesters, and is actively weighing military options. He has already imposed a 25% tariff on any nation trading with Iran, economically isolating the regime. “Once I have the numbers, we’ll act accordingly,” Trump said, referring to the mounting death toll.

Iran has responded by accusing the U.S. of seeking to “manufacture a pretext for military intervention,” warning that “this playbook has failed before.” The standoff creates a horrific trigger: the execution of a single protester could now be the spark that ignites a full-scale conflict, transforming Trump’s “You will regret it” from a threat into a battle cry.

Why It Matters

The protests, which began over economic despair, have swelled into the most serious challenge to the clerical regime since 1979, spreading to 180 cities. Newly verified videos show protesters in cities like Khorramabad chanting “Death to the dictator” amid gunfire. One resident described their city near the Caspian Sea as “unrecognizable… Everywhere is burnt with fire.”

As checkpoints inspect phones in Tehran and the world waits, the crisis hinges on a single, brutal decision. Will Iran cross Trump’s red line? If the executioner’s noose tightens around the neck of a protester, the world may witness the moment a domestic crackdown explodes into an international war. The final warning has been delivered. The clock is ticking.
