Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has opened up about her initial difficulties connecting with her son, admitting she was disappointed when she discovered she was having a boy instead of a girl.
In a recent conversation with YouTuber Korty EO, Savage said her desire for a daughter made it challenging to bond with Jamil during the first couple of years of his life.

She also revealed how childbirth affected her career and self-confidence. “So, when he came he was always crying and my body didn’t snap back. I looked horrible. I was supposed to do a campaign with Pepsi at the time and they turned me away. And I just thought this boy has destroyed me. But now, he is my best friend,” she said.
Despite the rocky start, Savage said she is grateful today for her son’s presence and has embraced her role as a mother.
She also shared how she is guiding him with lessons from her own life. “I always tell him, your mum suffered oo, so make sure you treat any girl like a queen. It is very important for me to raise him as a good man. He is going to make mistakes; he is not perfect. But at the core of him, I want him to be kind,” she added.
Tiwa Savage welcomed Jamil Balogun in July 2015 with then-husband Tunji Balogun. The young star celebrated his 10th birthday in July 2025.
