Solanke‍‌‍‍‌ Brace Breaths Life Into Spurs As Man City’s Title Run Stumbles

Dominic Solanke doubled his tally as Tottenham Hotspur continued their spirited second-half fight back from two goals down to secure an eye-catching 2-2 Premier League draw at home to Manchester City, a result that puts a spanner in the visitors’ title plans as they finish the weekend six points behind the leaders Arsenal.

Spurs got off to a sluggish start at home and were made to pay quickly when Rayan Cherki opened the scoring in the 11th minute. After a nice build-up play involving Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland, he turned and slammed through a shot. City kept the pressure, and just before the break, Semenyo took advantage of yet another defensive error to make an almost unassailable lead for his team at half-time.

After the interval, the hosts looked like a totally different team, and their efforts paid off when Solanke scored, first showing great composure to fend off his marker and then slotting the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma. Spurs’ resurgence momentum continued, and Solanke, with a stylish ‘scorpion-kick’, connected with Conor Gallagher’s cross to give the home side an equaliser.

The game could have gone either way, but the two teams came up with clear-cut opportunities but neither of them was able to notch the decisive goal. The points shared saw Spurs’ unbeaten run increased to four games, but they are still in 14th spot. City dropping points meant that Arsenal had a great day crest without even putting on their ‍‌‍‍‌shoes.
