Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has talked about his desire to be like former Chelsea captain and highest goal scorer, Frank Lampard, as he looks to lead the club to great success in the near future.
The Argentine international joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023, for a reported fee of £106.8 million. Since then, he has been a pivotal player for the Blues.
Fernandez was instrumental in the club’s recent success, where they won the UEFA Conference League in the 2024-25 season, and later, under the coaching of former manager Enzo Maresca, he was part of the squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 25-year-old has appeared in 151 matches for Chelsea in all competitions and has scored 27 goals, along with 26 assists. Only Cole Palmer has had more goal involvements than Fernandez at Chelsea since the date of his signing.
In the current campaign, Fernandez has maintained his excellent for, having scored 12 goals and provided 7 assists in all competitions.
Before Lampard’s interim spell in 2023, Fernandez had the first-hand experience of the legendary midfielder. He considered Frank Lampard as an inspiration.“He’s a role model, ” Fernandez told the media.
“I have watched his movements in the box, how he scored and changed the game. I want to do here what he did.”After having to adjust to several new managers, including the present one, Liam Rosenior, Fernandez still reckons that the Blues as a team have been improving and that the players are becoming better as they are aiming for more silverware.
