Nigerian comedian-turned-politician Seyi Law has stirred debate after asserting that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has delivered improved security compared to previous governments.

Speaking during an upcoming episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, Law responded to a question on whether Nigerians are safer today than they were a decade ago. He maintained that the country is currently more secure than it was under the administrations of Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, the present government has recorded notable successes in the fight against banditry and terrorism, pointing out that incidents such as bomb explosions have drastically reduced.

“Nigeria is safer now than 10 years ago. This government has killed more bandits since Jonathan’s. When have you last heard of a bomb blast? It is not today that they have been kidnapping people in their houses,” he said.

The entertainer, who openly supported Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, also argued that the economy has shown signs of improvement since the president assumed office.

“Nigeria’s economy is better than Tinubu met it,” he added.

However, his remarks sparked immediate pushback from another guest on the show, who countered that the country remains deeply unsafe, insisting that “Nigeria is more unsafe than it has ever been.”

Nigeria continues to grapple with multiple security threats, including insurgency by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), as well as widespread kidnappings and attacks by armed bandits.

Data from the National Human Rights Commission reportedly indicates that at least 2,266 people were killed by insurgents and bandits in the first six months of 2025 alone — a figure higher than the total number recorded throughout 2024.
