Nigerian actress and director Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that the full proceeds from her directorial debut, ‘Mother’s Love,’ will be donated to the educational charity Slum2School Africa.

Speaking at a private screening of the film, she confirmed that all income earned for her production company, Redhot Concepts, from the movie’s theatrical run will be directed “to advance access to education.”

The actress noted that the film’s story aligns with the mission of the charity, as it “shines light into the universal truth that transcends geography.”

“Today I stand before you and I am honoured to announce that a 100% of the production company’s proceeds from the theatrical release of ‘Mother’s Love’ will be donated to advancing the access to education. It will be handed over to Slum2School,” Omotola said.

She added, “For more than three decades, my work in film has allowed me to tell stories that travel far beyond the screen. Yet, alongside that journey my humanitarian advocacy has reminded me that stories are not merely narratives, they are mirrors reflecting the realities of our world.

“Set between the beautiful and very important community of Makoko, a community in Lagos, shines light into the universal truth that transcends geography.”

The film, which runs for 1 hour and 42 minutes, first premiered last year at the 50th anniversary of the Toronto International Film Festival and has been praised on social media for its storytelling.

‘Mother’s Love’ follows the journey of Labake, a devoted mother who must navigate challenges to keep her family intact. The story focuses on her love for her husband Rotimi and their daughter, Adebisi.

The narrative takes a turn when Adebisi, accustomed to a life of privilege, joins the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. There, she meets fellow corps member Obaro, triggering a conflict that explores social and economic class differences.

The film stars Olumide Oworu, Ifeanyi Kalu, and Noray Nehita in pivotal roles.
