Beauty entrepreneur and reality star Adeola Adeyemi, popularly known as Diiadem, has opened up about why she avoids calling herself a single mother, despite largely raising her daughter on her own.
In a recent interview on the Diary of a Naija Girl podcast, the Real Housewives of Lagos season 3 star explained that she prefers the term “single parent,” highlighting her willingness to keep her child’s father involved in their daughter’s life.
“I won’t say I am a single mother. I would just say I am a single parent because I did not stop my baby’s dad from being in her life,” she said.

Diiadem revealed that her daughter’s father eventually reconnected with them after a long absence, and she welcomed the reunion despite concerns from those around her.
“After a very long time, he reached out, and I opened the doors because, to be very honest, I wanted my daughter to have her dad. Even the guy I was seeing at the time was like, ‘Are you okay? This guy just left you guys.’ But at the end of the day, that’s her dad. What can we do?
“I saw the joy and happiness he brought to my child. So, it is actually not the same.”
The reality star emphasised that while she is financially capable of raising her daughter alone, she believes a father’s emotional presence is invaluable.
“To be very honest, the position of a man would still be there. You can’t do it all. Even though you have the money… that emotional presence is needed for the child,” she added.
Diiadem had previously shared that she left her relationship with her child’s father after experiencing domestic abuse during her pregnancy. She and her ex-husband, Odekunle, held their traditional wedding in 2017.
