Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has once again addressed her decision to keep details of her failed marriage away from public scrutiny, stressing that not every personal experience should be turned into online content.

In a chat with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the film star was asked why she and her former husband, Patrick Doyle, chose to remain silent when their marriage ended.

Responding, Ireti explained that she never saw any reason to make her private matters public, insisting that the breakdown of her marriage was not something she owed strangers an explanation for. She maintained that only close family members and friends who witnessed the beginning of their union deserved any form of clarity.

“First of all, you didn’t hear anything because it wasn’t your business. Two people come together to get married, and there’s a celebration. Sadly, something goes wrong, and you can no longer continue your journey together. The only people you owe an explanation to, if at all, are those small family and friends who gathered on day one.”

The actress further expressed her reservations about taking personal struggles to social media, noting that online audiences are often more interested in sensationalism than genuine empathy. She made it clear that she deliberately avoided becoming a topic for public consumption.

“You see, the larger audience you’re performing for does not care. I personally would never knowingly give myself up as clickbait. You’re never going to win, so who are you explaining your matter to?”

Opening up on the emotional weight of separation, particularly after a long-term commitment, Ireti described the experience as painful but necessary for growth. She encouraged people going through similar situations to focus on self-reflection instead of public validation.

“The end of a long-term relationship, let alone marriage, is painful. Whatever the circumstances, not apportioning blame is painful. You need to spend the energy you’re using to perform for an audience who doesn’t care to sit down, go deep within, understand what went wrong for the sole purpose of not making the same mistake again.”

Ireti and Patrick, who tied the knot in 2004, ended their marriage in 2023. When confirming the split, the actress disclosed that she would retain the Doyle surname, explaining that it remains an important part of the brand she has built over the years.
