The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that there would be a public holiday on Monday, 13th Of June, 2022. This holiday is to celebrate this year’s democracy day which falls on a Sunday.

This announcement was made by the minister of interior as a representative of the federal government.

Because of this celebration, some activities have been lined up for this celebration. The minister of information, Lai Mohammed has said that there would be a special jumat service and public lecture at the National Mosque on Friday. These activities would be followed up by the president’s speech on Sunday to all Nigerians by 7 am. This broadcast is expected to be focused on the Democracy Day celebration on the 12th of June, 2022.

The next activity lined up after the speech is a church program at the National Christian Centre by 3 pm on Sunday.

This would be followed up by a Democracy Day parade on Monday at the Eagles Square in Abuja.

The minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola has advised Nigerians to reflect on the true meaning of democracy which the founding father had fought viciously for. He begged Nigerians to desist from agitations that could disintegrate the country.

“With the challenges we face in Nigeria today, I see an opportunity for us not to break up or break down, but to break open; open up to ourselves in truth so that we may appreciate each other, understand each other, honor each other and live together in peace and prosperity.”
