Armed bandits have killed two people and abducted a police inspector during an attack along the Birnin Magaji–Kaura Namoda road in Zamfara State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a post shared on his X handle on Tuesday, citing security sources.

According to the report, the attack happened around 1:00 p.m. on April 19 when about 100 armed men, reportedly carrying AK-47 rifles, blocked the road between Gidan Malam Haruna and Gidan Katare in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area.

The assailants were said to have intercepted a Golf 3 vehicle transporting passengers from Nasarawa Godel market to Kaura Namoda before opening fire on it.

Two passengers, identified as Zaliha Usman and an unnamed infant, were killed in the attack, according to the sources.

The attackers also abducted a police inspector, Bala Abdullahi, who was attached to the Kaura Namoda Division, and made away with his motorcycle.

In response, a joint team of police tactical units, military personnel, community protection guards, and local hunters was deployed to the scene but reportedly came under fire from the bandits.

During the confrontation, two soldiers sustained gunshot injuries.

The injured personnel and other victims were taken to the General Hospital in Birnin Magaji, where medical officials confirmed the deaths and provided treatment for the wounded.

The remains of Zaliha Usman have since been released to her family for burial in line with Islamic rites.
