After a conversation with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba has shown his willingness to assist Tanzania football development initiatives in the run-up to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
On a charm offensive, Drogba, who is in the country, revealed that receiving an invitation to help in the preparations for the tournament, which Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda will co-host, was a great honour for him. The East African leader has also made a further request of the ex-striker to become an ambassador of the competition.
The 47-year-old went on to talk about his readiness to cooperate with the local authorities to enhance sports infrastructure and youth development. He gave importance to sustainable systems, which, according to him, are the foundation for long-term success.

Local officials in Tanzania are convinced that the 3-time African Footballer of the Year experience at the highest level will be very helpful in strengthening academies and training facilities.
Besides that, he lauded the government’s rising budget allocation to sports as a sure indication of dedication to growth in the sector.
Drogba motivated young players to also give priority to education as well as football. To him, discipline and knowledge are the two main ingredients of success that will stand the test of time.
One of the unique features of AFCON 2027 is its being hosted for the first time by three countries. From now on, Tanzania will concentrate on utilising Drogba’s knowledge to organise an outstanding tournament while at the same time establishing a strong football legacy.
