Famous singer, Lizzo has altered the lyrics to her newest music after fans grumbled that it used an able-ist insult. Grrrls, which was released quite recently initially contained a demeaning term for a type of cerebral palsy known as spastic diplegia, in the first verse. Fans had confessed to being appalled and displeased by the song and had asked her to re-record the music with alternative words. The songstress took the backlash to heart and released a new version erasing the harmful word on Monday night.

In a statement she posted on social media, she assured her fans that promoting derogatory language was never her intention. The statement also revealed that as a plus-sized black woman in America, the popstar has had many demeaning words used against her so she could comprehend the influence words could have (whether intended or in her case, unintended)

The hurriedly corrected version of the music Grrrls now contains the lyric “hold me back” in place of the former. Lizzo said the change was a result of her paying attention and taking action. She further disclosed that she was committed to being a part of the change she wanted to see in the world, as an influential artist. The latest version has already substituted the former on streaming services including Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube

This previous weekend, fans criticized the singer for her selection of lyrics, marking out that the derogatory term had often been used to assault people with impairments.
