Atletico Madrid are preparing for a dramatic summer rebuild and could consider selling Julian Alvarez if a huge offer arrives during the transfer window.
Reports from Spain claim new sporting director Mateu Alemany is bracing for a mass exodus following a disastrous season which ended in a humiliating 5-1 thumping by Villarreal and a fourth-place finish in La Liga. Simeone’s troops also suffered Champions League disappointment after crashing out in the semi-finals.
The team will have to embark on a new chapter following the exit of Antoine Griezmann to Major League Soccer, with Alvarez having been billed as the figurehead of Atletico’s future project after arriving from Manchester City in 2024.

He has shone personally since arriving, bagging 49 goals in 106 games including 20 in the current campaign. But with the club failing to win a single major trophy in recent seasons, his long-term commitment is now in doubt.
And with Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Barcelona all believed to be closely tracking the Argentine, Atletico are reportedly open to a sale if a bid exceeding €100 million is received – which would make it one of the biggest ever sales in the club’s history.
Money from a potential Alvarez sale could enable Atletico to splash out on targets like Man City team-mate Bernardo Silva and Tottenham defender Cristian Romero as Simeone prepares to reshape his side.
