U.S. Authorities have confiscated more than 300 drones that had been flown near FIFA World Cup facilities since the soccer tournament kicked off two weeks ago in the U. S.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials stated on Tuesday that they are continuing to enforce no-fly zones near stadium areas and where fans are gathering during the Cup.
Specifically on game days, drone flight is banned within a 3 nautical-mile radius and up to 3,000 feet in the air, unless otherwise approved by air traffic control officials.
The FBI’s field office in Miami said it confiscated 54 drones this year within the Sunshine State and also issued citations to 49 people caught operating drones there.
Also operating at fan fest designated events and other central viewing locations, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) prohibits drones within 1 nautical mile from flying within 1,000 feet from the ground. In all cases, violating security measures could lead to hefty fines, imprisonment, and equipment confiscation as well.
FBI personnel have been dispatched to World Cup venues to address unauthorized drones and take action if they notice them flying anywhere near stadiums.
