Jose Mourinho has played down rumors of a potential squad revamp for Real Madrid. He is intent on keeping some of his best players and finding a way to restore the team structure after a troubled last season.
According to reports, Mourinho was looking to offload a number of high-profile players. The club’s alleged dressing room issues from the 2025-2026 season had been blamed. The boss, however, stated that this isn’t his immediate goal: “I’ve read some things saying that Jose is coming here and he’s going to cut some of the best players who supposedly had problems during the season. No, no. I want these players. I want the best. Now I have to find a way to have a team and not have the problems that, from what I’ve read, they had in previous seasons.”

He expressed his excitement about working with the players and fixing team dynamics: The Portuguese tactician did crack a joke when he talked about the ongoing FIFA World Cup, stating he wished his Madrid players had lost their respective games at the tournament to allow them to join pre-season camp on time.
Mourinho was heard in the Podcast, saying: “You want the truth? I want the Real Madrid players to lose and go on vacation because I want them back for pre-season,” Mourinho said, laughing. “Pre-season will kick off after the World Cup, as Real Madrid look to cement their status at the peak of European Football under Mourinho, as well as look to bag a couple of trophies in the new season.
