The US government is getting ready to hand over thousands of pages of internal files about Prince Harry, after a long legal battle. A conservative group called the Heritage Foundation has forced the US State Department to open up its archives. People are watching to see if any of Prince Harry’s visa secrets are to be exposed. This will shed light on how he managed to move to America after admitting to past drug use.
What the Released Files Will Show
Government workers have spent months sorting through a massive amount of paperwork to prepare for this release, which is scheduled to start at the end of July. While a judge ruled last year that Prince Harry’s private visa application form would stay sealed to protect his privacy, these new files include emails, letters, and memos sent between different government offices.
The paperwork traces how American officials discussed the prince behind closed doors. Out of the millions of pages checked, the government is releasing 307 documents that add up to nearly 2,500 pages. Most of these files come straight from the Office of the Secretary of State, meaning Harry’s stay in America was handled by top-level officials. Some files also come from the legal team and the offices that manage visas at foreign embassies.

My Opinion
The group pushing for these files wants to prove that Prince Harry got special treatment from immigration officials just because of his royal title. They point to his book, Spare, where he openly wrote about trying different illegal drugs, and they claim he should have been banned from entering the United States.
However, anyone who understands how immigration works knows that the government has the power to grant waivers every single day. Normal citizens get these waivers for past mistakes all the time if they do not have a criminal record. The group hunting for a scandal will likely be very disappointed. Instead of finding scandalous cover-ups, they are probably just going to find boring, formal emails about security plans, diplomatic meetings, and travel schedules for the Invictus Games.
Heavy Reductions and Awkward Timing
The US government has already made it clear that they do not believe any rules were broken or that anyone acted improperly. Many of the pages will likely have lines blacked out to protect government secrets and personal privacy. Some of the messages might simply be about ordinary events, like when the US government sent an official group to support Prince Harry’s Invictus Games tournament.
The timing of this release makes things very awkward for the royal. He is currently planning a major trip back to the United Kingdom this summer with Meghan and their children to promote the upcoming 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Having his immigration history dragged back into the spotlight is the last thing he needs while trying to focus on his charity work. No matter what is inside the letters, critics will be searching through the text to see if there are any secrets in Prince Harry’s visa.
