The workers at the Apple Store shop in Towson have just announced the measure 65-33, with about 12 abstentions. Shortly after the result was announced, the group tweeted:
“Now we celebrate… tomorrow we keep organizing”
This would make it the third Apple store retail shop to initiate a union drive in 2022, but the first to successfully hold an election. The latest Apple Core union, wrote a letter to the tech juggernaut, Apple, sometime in May, stating that its bid was about the workers having access to rights that they did not have at the moment, but that it (the union) did not want to cause a crisis with the management.
Other Apple stores in Atlanta and New York, have also made moves toward unionization. Atlanta employees have, however, temporarily halted their scheduled election, with the Communications Workers of America union accusing the business of anti-union activity.
Apple announced to the AFP news group that it was refusing to say anything on the vote, which still had to be certified officially by the NLRB. The Towson store’s group is the newest in a line of very important group campaigns in the States.
Unions are far less popular in the US than in a lot of European countries but are still nonetheless safeguarded in law. Creating a union involves the business accepting the union voluntarily or by getting at least 30 percent of the employees’ signatures so that an official ballot by the NLRB can hold.
