Inter Miami’s signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has been met with an investigation by Major League Soccer into the transfer. In order for a team in the league to complete a transfer for any player, they also have discovery rights to the player. Those rights indicate that the team has the first chance to come to terms with any player in question.
After the move became official, MLS issued a statement announcing an investigation into the reported tampering.
“The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.” It states.
Prior to Inter Miami landing Casemiro’s rights, Los Angeles Galaxy held onto the midfielder’s rights to any potential signing by an MLS club. David Beckham, an owner of Inter Miami, described the move and Casemiro: “I have watched Casemiro’s career unfold for many years and admired his determination to become one of the most successful midfielders in world football.”
Casemiro spent a year and a half in Manchester, and played 160 times in the Red Devils’ colours, winning an FA Cup and a Carabao Cup after being transferred from Real Madrid.
He will now join compatriots such as Lionel Messi and De Paul in the United States, and the new MLS club will remain in suspense over the completion of the league’s investigation.
