Nigeria’s electoral body –INEC has reassured citizens in Nigeria, saying that they would comply with the court order to delay the Continuous Voter Registration exercise to June 30.

The head of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, assured the citizens at a briefing just before the Youth Vote Count Mega Music Concert slated to hold on Saturday, further adding that the electoral commission had an established history of following through with court orders.

The spokesman of the INEC chairman, represented by Mr. Rotimi Oyekamni, the INEC Head’s Chief Press Secretary, reported that while the court documents ordered the commission to appear in court on the 29th of June to deliver some documents, he wanted to assure Nigerians living in Nigeria that they would comply with the court order. He finally said that the commission was going to do what the court mandated but that, however, since there was still an ongoing court case, he couldn’t talk about the details.

A Federal High Court, Abuja had given an order to halt INEC from stopping the ongoing continuous voters’ registration exercise.

Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon had approved an order of interim injunction following the court’s ruling after the hearing of an argument on motion ex-parte by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
