The Federal Government of Nigeria today has assured Nigerian Undergraduates and University lecturers and workers alike that its battle with university-based unions would soon be concluded and academic activities continued in earnest. The Federal Government has also said to disregard claims that it was undergoing plans to make different payment plans for the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

This news is coming as the Nigerian government has beckoned all the proper agencies such as the National Information Development Agency, and NITDA to report to it on the progress it has so far reached in resolving the troublesome issues that led to the current strike by the four university-based unions.

The country’s public universities were closed on February 14 by the academic union, ASUU, and the other three university-based unions, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions, NASU, and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, showed their support by joining in on the strike over the government’s neglect of their own their concerns.

Ngige has reported that he was waiting for the Tripartite Plus Committee’s statement including the Ministry of Education, the Chief of Staff, Salaries and Wages Income Commission, the National University Commission, NUC, and the striking unions as well.
