Cristiano Ronaldo could be suspended for six months after the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) opened disciplinary proceedings against Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo over his exit from the national team camp.
The decision, which was announced on Saturday by the federation’s disciplinary council, said the 41-year-old forward was suspended after the incident on 30 September ahead of Portugal’s Nations League game with Denmark.
For FPF, he may be imposed a suspension of between one and six months, as well as a fine of between € 500 and € 1,000.
A minimum suspension would see him back in the squad on October 30, meaning he could make his return for Al-Nassr in the November international break. But a maximum sanction would keep him out until March 30 – potentially until June.
The president of FPF, Pedro Proença, said he expected Ronaldo to join the squad again in the future, once the disciplinary situation was resolved.

“The Portuguese Football Federation and the president, in this spirit of tranquillity, engaging with all parties, who have already shown their willingness to have the captain among us in public, the unanimous desire of everyone,” Proença was quoted as saying by A Bola.
Ronaldo had also previously apologised for not acknowledging fans after the Norway game and leaving his teammates. He also said he was prepared to stay available for selection after any ban was served.
Ultimately, the decision is made by the federation’s independent disciplinary panel.
