At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency discovered twenty-two blocks of heroin with a street value of about N4.5 billion.

This was said in a statement made on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA.

The shipment, according to Babafemi, weighed 23.55 kilograms and was hidden in cartons of Nestle Cerelac baby food.

According to him, the shipment arrived aboard a South African Airways flight on the 29th of June from Johannesburg, South Africa.

He explained that this was a piece of the consolidated cargo that arrived at the import shed of the Lagos airport’s Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc.

The true receiver of the narcotics shipment was Chike Eweni and a series of follow-up investigations resulted in the detention of two freight agents.

Eweni was detained the following day, on Thursday 30th of June, at a logistics warehouse in Ajao Estate, Ikeja, where he distributes the drug for his partner who is headquartered in South Africa.

During a preliminary interrogation, the suspect, who is from Anaocha Local Government Area in Anambra State, alleges that he is also involved in fish farming.

Before the arrest of Eweni, Muyiwa Bolujoko, a former driver with the public transportation business Bus Rapid Transit, was detained by NDLEA investigators at the airport on the 27th of June, for consuming ninety cocaine pellets, according to Babafemi.

Bolujoko, according to him, was detained at the security checkpoint before boarding a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Sharjah, with his intended final destination being Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The 39-year-old from Ijebu South LGA in Ogun was placed under excretion observation after a body scan result showed that he had consumed drugs, the speaker continued.

The guy passed all 90 pellets in four excretions while he was being held.

To generate money for a shuttle bus in Lagos that is known as the “Korope,” he claimed to have quit his N60,000 per month job as a BRT driver in February and decided to work as a drug courier.
